The signs are everywhere. Republicans desire a monarchical, “unitary” executive branch. Trump wants to go to the moon. The Washington Times, a Unification (or whatever they call it now) Church rag, supports Trump. Populism is in the air. Authoritarianism waxes and flourishes. Trump is treated as a savior and agent of fate with some vague, divine mandate, not as a public servant or administrator.
The “Moonies” have taken over in Washington. I will not call Republicanism a cult, but, obedience and blind allegiance to irrational, doctrinal authority are now normal. Press briefings are exercises in faith—displays of religious conviction in the destiny of Trump. Agencies and bureaucratic entities roll over, one after another, and refuse to do their jobs, acting as extensions of the authority of Trump.
Trump expects and demands compliance with his whims. Resisters are punished and driven out. This is not a legal government but a faith organization requiring total, unquestioning submission. Marriages are probably being arranged in secret since normal people won’t date Republicans. Plans are not made to ensure fair elections but succession. Complete control is near at hand. Everyone’s going to the moon.
