People can choose a system of coherent lies over an incoherent truth. Not that they love the lies but there's an art to presentation, and truth imbedded in a bad story that isn't intuitive or doesn't resonate can lose in spite of itself. Lies can be reassuring because reality sometimes sucks. Art is a kind of lie.
Not enlisting art on the side of truth compounds the problem that systems of lies have more latitude. They aren't tied down the way truth is, to reality. Using art for truth isn't slumming. Average citizens aren't philosophy students. The Church understood this. Democrats apparently don't. So they lose.
