Americans are self-medicating in an evangelical existential crisis by giving up on their humanity and joining the death cult of Trump. Evangelicals hate life and creation because it's corrupt, impermanent, imperfect and loaded with temptation. To them it's transitional, an unfortunate stop on the road to salvation in communion with God. They want to be done with it.
Salvation is personal, as they see it. For some reason this suicide must be cultural, communal, all-encompassing and en masse. I suppose because suicide isn't permitted. They seem to want to murder a lot of people on the way to heaven. I find the thinking perverse. And the experience intolerable. I'd like to question them about it but I'm busy trying to prevent this catastrophe.
I think they want us to kill them, by underlying logic. Suicide by surrogate. Hence their love of guns and violence and their affection for school shootings and other cathartic acts. They want us to rise up and do whatever it takes to free them from the awful burden of life and free will, the free will they kind of deny, so maybe that's how they blow a fuse and end up in with a death wish.
